Deep Freediving Instruction was founded in Hawaiʻi in 2011 by Daniel Koval, a 2x World Championship medalist and 6x U.S. National Record holder. Built from years of high-level competition, spearfishing, ocean training, and real-world teaching experience, Deep Freediving is not a tourist activity — it is a serious freediving education pathway. Daniel teaches students from their first formal freediving course through advanced training, safety development, and instructor-level preparation. The focus is not just getting certified or reaching a number. The focus is building the habits that matter after the course is over: equalization, recovery breathing, buddy awareness, rescue response, ocean judgment, technique, and knowing when not to dive. Deep Freediving’s roots also include Kristin Kuba, a U.S. National Record holder, underwater model, photographer, spearfisher, and longtime ocean athlete. Together, Daniel and Kristin bring more than 30 years of combined water experience into the Deep Freediving standard. For students who want real training in Hawaiʻi — not a casual ocean tour, not a crowded beginner experience, and not a shortcut certification — Deep Freediving offers a complete path from Level 1 through advanced and professional freediving development.
